Who is dnsbelgium.be?
DNS Belgium is a Belgian non-profit association, established in 1999.
Their mission is to ensure the operational and administrative management of the .be, .vlaanderen and .brussels domain name zones.
Life cycle of a .be domain name
“normal” life cycle
The image below (provided by DNSBelgium.be) illustrates the normal life cycle of a .be domain name.
A Registrar (like Behostings) can modify this lifecycle by performing certain transactions on the domain name.
In its normal life cycle, a domain name can have the following 3 states:
-
AVAILABLE: The domain is available for registration.
-
REGISTERED: The domain is registered, it is no longer available; a registrar is responsible for this domain for his own account or for the client. This is the normal status of your domain name if it is registered.
-
QUARANTINE: When a domain name is deleted, it goes into a quarantine period of 40 days. A quarantined domain is not available for registration, it can only be "reactivated" or "moved from quarantine"
The following transactions can have an impact on the life cycle of a .be domain name:
- Create: When a domain name is registered, then it enters the REGISTERED state.
- Delete: When a domain name is deleted, it then enters the QUARANTINE state.
- Renew: .be domains are automatically renewed, there is no existing renewal transaction.
- Transfer: A domain can be transferred to another Registrant / Registrar.
- Reactivate: The Registrar responsible for the domain name has reactivated it from its QUARANTINE status, the domain then goes into REGISTRED status.
- Transfer from quarantine: Any registrar to initiate a transfer from a quarantined domain to their registrar account.
For the Transfer and Transfer from quarantine operations, the registrar needs the transfer code that the registrar can obtain via the DNSBelgium site.
Altered domain name life cycle
DNS Belgium may carry out certain operations on the domains due to certain specific circumstances:
Two special states are added to the lifecycle:
- OUT OF SERVICE: This is an exception to REGISTRED status. This means that the Registrar with whom the domain name is registered has ceased its activity (its contract with DNS Belgium has been revoked for one reason or another) and the renewal date has passed. (there is no automatic renewal since there is no longer a registrar). The Registrant must transfer the domain to a new registrar within 2 months otherwise the domain returns to AVAILABLE status (there is no passage through QUARANTINE).
- ON HOLD: This is an exception to REGISTRED status. This situation means that an ADR procedure (Alternative Dispute Resolution, for example with Cepina) or a legal challenge is in progress. This has no impact on the outside world as the domain remains active. However, only the commands 'delete-domain', 'undo-delete-domain', 'update-domain' (without modifying the registrant), 'reactivate-domain' are possible. This allows the registrar to continue the technical management of the domain. If the domain name is deleted, a 40-day period starts from when the 'ON HOLD' status is removed.
These states and their causes are detailed more extensively on DNS Belgium's public site.
When a domain does not meet the validity conditions of a .be domain name, the following status is returned:
NOT VALID: The domain does not meet the validity conditions of a .be domain, for example the requested domain name is longer than 63 characters.
Verification status
DNS Belgium endeavors to verify the details of the holder of all .be domain names.
You can find the verification status for each .be domain name via this page https://www.dnsbelgium.be/fr/verification
In the case of the registration of a new .be domain name, the owner's information may be verified by DNS Belgium. In this case your domain will be "in progress" of verification.
One of the processes to validate the status of the domain is to confirm the registration of the domain by email. DNS Belgium sends an email to the domain owner box with a URL to be validated.
The email can be re-sent via the url: https://www.dnsbelgium.be/fr/verification
Please check your spam carefully.
Not verified
We have not yet verified the registrant details for this domain name, as we believe they are correct. If the Registrant subsequently registers a new domain name with the same details, we may verify the details.
In progress
The data of the holder of the domain name seem to us to be incomplete or possibly incorrect. Are you the domain name holder? We asked you to prove your identity. In the meantime, we have given the domain name the status "in progress". It is also possible that you have several domain names in progress if you registered them with the same details.
Checked
Registrant information is verified and correct for this domain name and possibly for other domain names registered at the same time.
What is needed to register a .be domain
You can easily and quickly register a .be domain name via our website https://www.behostings.com/fr/nomsdedomaines.php
To register a domain name you must:
- All data is correct.
- There is a difference between registering the domain privately or corporately. This appears at the "domain name holder" level.
In society, the organization is visible:
In private, no information related to the owner is visible:
- It is very important to provide a valid email address, because it is via this address that we will contact you about your domain name (including the activation of it).
- Think carefully about the name under which you register your business domain name.
- If you are registering the domain in the name of a company, it is better to have a "general" email address at the company than an email address linked to a staff member. Example dns@mycompany.tld instead of anne@mycompany.tld.
- Domains are registered quickly, usually within 30 minutes after validation by our services.
Obtain the transfer code for a .be domain name
The transfer code is the code you need to move your domain name from one agent to another or to transfer it to another holder.
The transfer code for .be consists of 5 series of 3 numbers separated by dashes, example: 157-397-971-824-125
The transfer code is only sent by email from DNS Belgium to the mailbox that owns the domain name.
You can request the transfer code via this page: https://www.dnsbelgium.be/fr/code-transfert
If the domain is authorized for transfer You can send the transfer code to the owner's mailbox (check your spam).
If the domain is prohibited for transfer, you will get this message:
The fact that your domain is prohibited from transfer is an action that should normally have been carried out by you at your host. Some hosts block the transfer when registering a domain name, which is normally prohibited by DNS Belgium.
